Darkness and Hope - Original Poem

Copyright ©2013 - Charlie Morgan

Her heart whispers of faces fading in the mists of time
Her soul beckons for the loved ones lost as she calls forth the power of earth and rhyme

On this Samhain night, dispel the fears as the wheel turns over another year

Fleeting apparitions dance in the flickering flames
On this night, she honors the lost and cries out their names

The veil draws thin
Let the rite begin
Spiral dance and rhythm flow
Like the river, wild and free
Let the hidden become the seen
Cast the blessings upon candle's glow
Banish the pain to the winds
Rise up as the new begins

Within darkness, hope blooms under the light of autumn moon

The Pumpkin and the Cardinal - Original Poem

Copyright © 2012 - Charlie Morgan

The Cardinal flies wild and free singing songs to all that be

The pumpkin - still, quiet and shy wishing for all the world that he could fly

A loving heart and caring hand plucks the pumpkin, oh so grand

A flash of blade, the carving knife begins a new, vibrant life

Fire burns through hollow eyes The pumpkin never meant for soaring flight, but to guard and protect all on Halloween night

The cardinal flies wild and free wishing for all the world that he could be mighty and brave like the pumpkin he sees

Author's Note - A couple of years ago, I made the attempt (attempt being the keyword) to grow my own pumpkins. I had stepped out onto my back porch to check on their progress and noticed several cardinals flying around. One flew into the center of the patch and began looking around. This poem came along pretty fast after seeing the bird explore with apparent fascination.

A Son of a Witch from North Carolina

Hello, there!

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Charlie Morgan. I've been a fireman for Green River Fire and Rescue for almost eleven years and an author of horror fiction for a little over three (you can visit my author blog by clicking HERE). I live in a small town (that nobody's ever heard of) in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. There's one more thing about me... something that typically earns odd looks from people... I'm a witch.

Normal responses to this revelation are, "you're a devil worshipper?!" or "read Harry Potter one too many times, have we?" and any number of other befuddled comments.

First of all - No, I do not worship the "Devil." That would require my belief in such an entity. Witchcraft is a nature-based belief system that has no "big, red, horned, evil dude," though there's a good chance something along those lines can be found in politics.
};-p~

And I can honestly say that I've never read a Harry Potter novel or watched any of the movies.

I don't hold secret "cult" meetings in dark, isolated forests. I don't sacrifice humans, children or animals. I don't fly on broomsticks or throw fireballs from my hands, though I have to admit, that would be pretty cool.

So what do I do?

I live my life just as any other human being. My spiritual beliefs are peaceful and, as stated above, involve a close connection to nature.

Now that that's out of the way, the purpose of this blog is not to be a how-to guide or anything along those lines (though there will probably be times that I post some things for you to try out). The reason this wee little blog exists is for me to have a voice to express myself within the realm of my chosen path. I'll be posting my original poetry, possibly some short stories here and there, essays, reviews, interviews, pagan oriented shops and so forth. I'll do my best to keep things updated as much as I'm able and keep it fun and entertaining. You can also expect to find little nuggets of witchy humor here and there.

So, welcome to my little corner of the web-filled cauldron. Cakes and ale are to the left...just save me some ale. New posts are coming very soon and I look forward to meeting and hearing from all you wonderful folks!

Blessed be
Charlie
